Classroom vs In-House training - How different are they?

Although technology-based training is becoming increasingly popular, training experts agree that it will never completely replace classroom training. At present, an overwhelming number of companies continue to use classroom training alongside an increasing amount of technology-based training, such as e-learning and computer-based training. Today, there is an array of techniques, methods, activities, and training aids available to create and present memorable, meaningful, and successful classroom training sessions.

Classroom Training

The advantages of classroom training are

  • Interact with Top Instructors- Meet face-to-face with experts; participate in question & answer sessions.

  • Hands-On Demonstrations- Reinforce new concepts with hands-on exercises that put your learning in action.

  • Group interaction enhances learning. Employees learn from one another as well as from the trainer.

  • The classroom setting also teaches employees how to interact with one another in a productive, professional, cooperative way, which is something that other forms of training often don't provide.

However, there are also disadvantages to classroom training

  • You have to put employees off the job, which cuts into work time and production schedules.

  • If you run shifts, it's often hard to schedule this kind of training, especially for night shift workers.

In-House Training

The advantages of In-House training are

  • More specific – generally running a course for a single client allows the training to focus on specific items that are causing issues within the business.

  • Customized training – Getting a group together allows all of the training and learning to be focused on the company and can discuss real and current examples.

However, there are also disadvantages to In-House training

  • No networking opportunities – attending a course with delegates from other companies allow networking and learning from one another.

  • Not up to speed with current best practice – passing on existing inefficiencies or perpetuating poor business practices.

  • If you are a company that carries out In-House training using internal resources then make sure they get the opportunity to go on external courses so they can keep their skills up to date, make sure they are current and using best practices.

  • Extra administration burden – need to make sure you have suitable training room, equipment, trainer parking, get the delegates there.

  • Pressure on delegates – if they are offsite training then they cannot be contacted (ideally) however if they are onsite they can be pulled out of a classroom if needed.

Your company training coordinator must have clear objectives and goals. With these in place you can surely take a decision which training type fits your company the best. PURE IT Academy provides both training types for it's courses for example Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook etc.
